You do not have to delete your account to delete your data. A single expense and a whole trip can each be removed on their own, from inside the app, and the photos attached to them go at the same time. Deleting the account removes everything at once, and can also be requested by email if you cannot sign in.
The expense is removed for everyone on the trip and the balances update to match. Its receipt photo is deleted from storage with it — including one that was taken offline and had not finished uploading yet.
Everything belonging to the trip goes: every expense and its photo, the trip's cover photo, the member list, the invite code and any unanswered invitations. Only the owner of a trip can delete it, and deleting it removes it for everyone on it. If you are a member rather than the owner, you can leave the trip instead: swipe it sideways on the trips list and confirm Leave. Leaving removes you from the member list; the expenses you added stay, because the balances would not add up without them.
Deleting an expense or a trip is immediate and cannot be undone. If you want a record first, export the trip from Settings → Import & export data before you delete it.
DELETE to confirm, then enter your password.Deletion begins immediately and cannot be undone.
If you cannot sign in, send a message to support@travelkitty.nz from the email address the account uses, with the subject Delete my account. The request will be actioned within 30 days, and usually much sooner. Sending from the account's own address is what confirms the request is yours; a request from a different address cannot be honoured, because there would be no way to tell it apart from someone trying to delete a stranger's data.

Your profile — display name, avatar colour Your sign-in credentials Your custom categories Your place search count — how many places you picked from place search each month The shop categories the app remembered from what you imported — including the copy shared with each trip you were on — and any import settings saved by older versions of the app Your receipts and your receipt scan count Your Akahu tokens, from the phone you delete the account on Every trip you own, for everyone on it All expenses, photos and balances on those trips Invitations you sent Your subscription records — the Play purchase token, the plan, its state and expiry |
Trips owned by someone else, which you are simply removed from Expenses you added to those trips, because the balances would not add up without them — they show as added by a former member Copies of your custom categories on those trips, so the expenses filed under them keep their category rather than reading as unknown Your Google Play subscription itself, which only you can cancel |
Deleting your account does not cancel a Premium subscription. It renews, and Google charges for it, until you cancel it yourself: Play Store → your profile → Payments and subscriptions. Nothing on this page and nothing in the app can do it for you — the agreement is between you and Google. Cancel there as well, whichever order you like, or you will go on paying for an app you have deleted.
If you own a trip that other people are still using, deleting your account deletes it for them too. If you want the trip to survive, ask another member to recreate it, or export it first from Settings → Import & export data before you delete.
An in-app deletion is immediate: the app works through your trips, removes their photos, and then removes the account itself. Backups held by the hosting provider roll off within 30 days. Nothing is retained for marketing, and there is no grace period during which the account can be restored.
